Today I started gathering my parents belongings together. Dad has a few thousand books in someone home. We have a trailer of things in someone else’s shed. And we divvied up our appliances and furniture to different friends. So my job is to gather it all together, sort out the things we want to keep and sell the rest. Then the things we are going to keep will be shipped to America.
I saw the trailer, which looked in pretty good condition after four years. I will be opening it tomorrow to make sure that nothing has gone moldy. I also started boxing up Dad’s books. They were being stored in a small town about half an hour away from Hastings where some friends of ours have a huge house. They have been looking after Dad’s book and tape library for the last four years. Juniper Leyser came down with me and helped me to start packing up the books. We worked on it for 2 ½ hours, and I think we are only half way through the books. So we will be going back tomorrow.
I also went driving and exploring today. I drove into Havelock North, a satellite town to Hastings, and then went to the top of Te Mata Peak. That has always been one of my favorite places, because you can look out over the Valley that is home to Hastings and Napier. I had an absolutely beautiful view and it was so clear I could see all the way across the Bay to Mahia Peninsula. There are some pictures below.
I was surprised to see how big Havelock North is getting. Dad, they have a road that goes through from Brookvale to St Georges Rd. It goes behind the rugby fields and brings you out past Crosses Road. Mrs. Bisley was telling me that all on the left side of Brookvale Road, opposite the Brookvale subdivision, they are going to build a huge retirement village. And there is a huge subdivision that’s been built almost opposite our Williams Street home. It is crazy how many new homes have gone in.
I spoke with Mum on the phone today. It was only as I was talking to her that it hit me how much I am missing them. I have tried very hard not to think about missing them too much and so far it seems to have worked.

Those mountains are amazing, plus they are all green. A color mountains around here aren't usually.
That is quit the list, that is a good thing you had people to help. Hey, so that would be Juniper in the second photo. She looks like a nice girl.
Ohhh...you are making me homesick. :-( But it looks so small. I'm totally wrinkling my nose as I say that (don't know why)
That looks so pretty, I miss it so much. Noo who are the 2 kids next to Juniper?
They belong to the lady who is staying in the Stuarts home. I cant remember both their names.
